The Plague Sermon – Prince Albert 18.02.2009

The Plague Sermon

When judgement day comes The Plague Sermon will be playing out the end titles. There is something so menacing about the violent romance that they play out with every performance. It’s like watching a doomed relationship, two people so in love with one another that the only possible way it can end is in their fatalities.

The Plague Sermon are by far my favourite Brighton band of the last year. I have not seen anyone else who can provide show after show that seems different yet familiar, its like the first time you return to your parents after leaving the nest.

Tales from the pit

No matter how much I love The Plague Sermon, they don’t half like making my job hard. They never play with stage lights, and tonight was no different having pushed all the cans up into the ceiling. There is no denying that it increases enhances the setting for their seedy outlet but it makes photographs near impossible.

I set the flash to as low as possible 1/64 on the SB600, and kept dialling down the speed until I started to see something I liked. Of course doing this always results in the problem of being too close to the subject and over exposing, but with a little bit of push and shove got there in the end.
