Well this week has been interesting indeed, it was looking to be the most productive in months.
A photoshoot with Wayside Kings on Monday, picking up some touch up work from a product shoot I did on Friday and finishing off my assignment for WkIII of the Garage Studios Creative Photography course.
But instead it all started with a loud bang.
This photo was taken this morning. I have been desperately on the hunt for a wide angle lens for some time now. Finally at the weekend I found a Sigma 18-24mm that was looking like going for a price I was happy with. Listing said no faults, clean glass and no fungus. Fab.
It arrive on Tuesday morning boxed up and bubbled to death, super I thought and speedy delivery. However on quick inspection I noticed several water spots on the front glass, and then when looking through it could see what appeared to be dozens of tiny scratch marks. I took it to Clock Tower camera in Brighton to get some expert savvy advice.
The opinion was that it has had condensation in it at some point and the marks are where the water has dried. Because it is quite a convex inner glass the water droplets have streaked. It may or may not have an affect on the shots you take.
So now I am trying a few out to see if it needs to go back.
Annoying yes – but nothing compared to what had happened to me the night before. I got 10 miles out of Brighton on the way to a great shoot with a great band Wayside Kings, fronted by a dear old friend of mine Jim Medhurts, when suddenly the car ground to a halt as I struggled across a roundabout.
2hrs later I had managed to get the car working (3times) and limp back into Brighton. As it’s still dark in the evenings I haven’t been able to check it out but I think that the head gasket has gone boom. That can be really costly. I am hoping for the chance to reshoot with Wayside Kings when I am back in 4 wheels.
Onto Assignment 3. Got my images back from the lab yesterday only to find my chubby fingers in half the shots. Rather annoyingly they were also in some of the images I was banking on to emphasise my selection.
I think the 12 I did display and talk about were well received by the group and hopefully weren’t too shabby. I am hoping to find the time to scan in the prints over the weekend.
So there we have it, a rather eventful – non-eventful week. In the meantime, why not come follow me on twitter. twitter.com/avangelistphoto
