Fall Out Boy returned to Brighton this evening to a sold out crowd at the Brighton Centre. On assignment for Thrashhits.com, I headed down to see what all the fuss was about.
Pete Wentz – Pyro party
Tales from the pit
It’s been a while since I have written anything from the pit. But today was a true challenge. First off, the support bands lighting was drastically restricted, something that only ever seems to happen at the Brighton Centre. This kind of show, is where the 3-songs no flash rule apply. It’s something that I am no longer used to, having the advantage of being an official photographer for Concorde2, and doing most of my work there.
Luckily, the amazingly talented Ben Petrucci, was kind enough to lend me an uber choice lens (Nikon 17-50mm f2.4) at last minute after getting a hot tip from fellow Brighton gig photographer Mike Burnell that the band were using Pyro’s during the first track of the set.
And boy did it pay off. The extra wide frame meant getting all the flames in and the low speed meant that down at f2.8 I was still able to shoot at 1/125 at ISO 800. Sure there is some grainy looking noise when viewed at 100% but it isn’t digital noise. And the results.. well I don’t think there is a shot I don’t like.
This show was reviewed for www.thrashhits.com. More photo’s can be seen there along with a review.
