Where have all the cowboys gone?

This week I have been working quite hard on other projects for some of the amazing talent on offer in Brighton. This was taken on my way home last night, it is a great example of the things you can find when you are paying attention.

Taken with at f1.8 on a 50mm lens you can see why the 50mm prime is raved about for pulling focus, the drop off at this range is incredible and really makes things bang out hard.

The only thing that lets this down, is that the highlight in the top right has clipped beyond the point of recovery, this is a real shame but when you are dealing with harsh sunlight it is something you should always consider.

Under a more controlled situation I perhaps could have under exposed this and then pulled the rest of the image back up.

Next week I will be writing a quite guide on exposure techniques.

That’s a great photo. I gotta look into getting myself another lens or two for my Olympus E510 (still only got the 2 that came with it).

Thanks Lee, you really should get a 50mm, I don’t know much about the Olympus bodies but I am sure they’re compatible with one of the big two aren’t they?

f1.8 is a great way to go, but I get just as dazzling results from f2.8.
