RINOA supported Latitudes and Shels at the Brighton Freebutt last weekend. A late stand in due to tour mates failing to serve Visa’s at the airport, RINOA were quite the surprise and greatly enjoyable.
I tried some new settings for this show (including shots for the other sets from the evening from Latitudes) I am still unsure of the benefits of these but decided to try pushing up the ISO to 1600 and not using a flash on the suggestion from Tom over at www.ishootshows.com an incredible concert photographer based in the states.

I found that the main problem with the Nikon D80 when pushed over 800 is that the noise gets uncontrollable and the blacks start to corrupt block up and go purple more than anything else.
It is the first time I have gone so high with ISO since recently purchasing a Sigma EX lens which an aperture of f2.8 which is the first expensive lens I have bought so far and has had incredible results being able to hold the aperture throughout the zoom length of 24-70mm allowing for close angles from front of the stage as well as a few meters away.

The noise is still very much present the lens does not obviously improve the quality or capabilities of the sensor itself, but its ability to take the shot slightly faster does yield better results.
