As festival season has well and truly kicked in the quality of shows floating around the venues and clubs are becoming sparse, spare a few warm up slots.
It has given me the opportunity to catch up with some artists that have completely missed me by, work on integrating my Flickr Stream with Last.FM’s events service, using the Last.FM event calendar to sync with Microsoft Outlook to ensure I know what is happening where and when and generally being a bit geeky.
Here’s a round up of what has been happening in the world of Andy Parker AKA Avangelist Photography.
Shining a new light on the Studio
At the tail end of July I took part in an incredibly insightful and enjoyable studio lighting course. The 2 day course run by Dark Daze, Brighton UK, covered everything you could need to be able to comfortably set up studio lighting for a multitude of shoots and finished off nicely on how to balance natural light ‘on location’ out in the wild.
Dark Daze along with several other rather talented Brighton individuals have just opened up their new studio - Garage Studios Brighton, and intend to be running a variety of courses and training schemes throughout the year. I would highly recommend it to anybody wanting to get into Studio photography, whether it is sitting behind the lens or assisting, set design and everything beyond.
Cut Copy and Print
A whirlwind of events have occurred in Avangelist useage in the last few months, another great shoot with my good friends Latitudes, during their tour with the fantastic new comers Rinoa, and *Shels. It was a brilliant night at the Freebutt in Brighton, with all the acts taking Avangelist Photography for their various social sites.
Over the next few months I am hoping to be collaborating with the guys from Latitudes on their full length Album artwork, website and other materials, and hooking up with Rinoa again to shoot them on the Devil Sold His Soul tour.
A Short Fanzine About Rocking used a couple of the shots from the Ghost of a Thousand set at this years Great Escape Festival, to accompany a double page interview with the band.
The afformentioned shoot was done for Brighton magazine XYZ who incidentally have dropped me as a photographer deciding that they are unable to cover gigs. This has not been that much of a blow, as although the magazine is new, it is also poorly organised by 4 of the most pretencious people I have ever met. As you all know, their loss.
I am currently in talks with a few big names in the world of online music journalism, which I am hoping to reveal more about in the next few days.
So that pretty much wraps it up, up coming events include, Tubelord, Soulfy, Be Your Own Pet (Last ever show for Pitchforkmedia.com), Pelican and Torche.
And Finally..
Bands that I have recently fallen in love with:
Rinoa
We Are Carnivores
Russian Circles
Red Sparrows

Guns Up
Bands I have recently rediscovered:

Oneida
