Took a trip back in time on Saturday night to go check out BlakFish at The Forum in Tunbridge Wells, where I cut my teeth some ten years ago now. It was an interesting experience, particularly as I had not been back there since 2002 to watch a show. It is still one of the greatest venues around, it is an excellent space and the sound is perfect. It’s just a real shame that nobody has yet cracked how to market and promote it yet, although I gather things are coming along leaps and bounds in that front at present. More after the jump.

BlakFish played a somewhat spiteful set, much more so than their Offset Festival main stage performance where I watched them last weekend. It must be easy to think yourself better when you are insulting 50 people all under the age of 20 on a Saturday night. OK, so the turn out was complete shit, someone fucked up there big time as this is one of the most emerging bands in the country who only a week before had played to a good 800+ people, but they still played a solid set, threw themselves around the adequate stage and even though clearly disappointed with the number of punters, still made an effort.

I was gutted to discover that the stage lights which I grew up on have been replaced by just two LED cans which could barely illuminate a really reflective thing from reflector town near Reflectington. Major let down, and now I understand why I haven’t seen a decent photo come out of the gaff in quite some time.

You got to give some colour for people to play with.
